Steel & Metals

Robust testing equipment and precision sensors designed for the demanding environments of steel production and metals processing.

Overview

The steel and metals industry relies on material testing to ensure product quality, process control, and compliance with Indian and international standards. Every batch of rolled steel, forged component, or cast part must meet specified mechanical properties before it leaves the mill or foundry.

JRAGRAU has partnered with steel plants, rolling mills, foundries, and metals processing companies across India for over two decades. Our Universal Testing Machines, load cells, and calibration services are designed for the harsh environments and high-throughput demands of metals production.

From tensile testing of reinforcement bars to hardness correlation of forged components, our instruments provide the measurement reliability that metals producers depend on for quality certification.

Tensile & Mechanical Testing

Tensile testing is the most commonly performed mechanical test in the metals industry. It determines yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, elongation, and reduction of area — the key properties specified in material standards.

JRAGRAU UTMs support metals testing for: • Reinforcement bars (TMT bars) per IS 1786 / IS 1608 • Structural steel per IS 2062 / ASTM A36 • Sheet metal formability and tensile properties • Wire and wire rope tensile testing per IS 1835 • Fasteners proof load and wedge tension testing

Our machines handle capacities from 5 kN (thin wire testing) to 1000 kN (structural sections), with load cells providing ±0.5% or better accuracy class per IS 1828.

Process Monitoring & Production Control

Beyond laboratory testing, the metals industry uses force and pressure measurement for real-time process monitoring:

Rolling mill controls — Load cells mounted on rolling mill stands measure rolling force in real time, allowing automatic gap adjustment for consistent strip thickness.

Press monitoring — Compression load cells monitor forging and stamping press forces, detecting die wear and process deviation before defective parts are produced.

Crane and ladle weighing — Crane load cells and shear beam cells provide weight data for charge optimization in furnace operations.

JRAGRAU sensors are built in alloy steel and stainless steel with IP65/IP67 protection to withstand the heat, dust, and vibration of metals production environments.

Quality Certification & Standards Compliance

Steel mills and foundries must issue test certificates (Mill Test Certificates / MTCs) with every shipment. The accuracy of these certificates depends on properly calibrated testing equipment.

JRAGRAU supports metals quality certification with: • Testing machine verification per IS 1828 / ISO 7500 at regular intervals • Load cell recalibration with traceable certificates • Replacement load cells compatible with existing testing machines from any manufacturer • Software-integrated data logging for automated test report generation

Our testing machines generate comprehensive PDF reports with load-extension graphs, meeting the documentation requirements of BIS certification and customer audit processes.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

For standard TMT bars (8mm to 32mm), a 600 kN UTM is sufficient. For larger diameter bars or structural sections, a 1000 kN machine may be required. We recommend selecting capacity so your typical test forces fall between 20-80% of machine range for optimal accuracy.
Yes. We regularly supply replacement load cells compatible with UTMs from all manufacturers. Provide us with the existing load cell specifications (capacity, sensitivity, dimensions) and we will engineer a drop-in replacement with calibration.
Our testing machines are designed to meet IS 1828 accuracy requirements. BIS licensing for specific products is maintained as required. Contact our sales team for current BIS certification status for specific models.
